What is a Clinical Psychologist

A clinical psychologist is an expert in the field of understanding human behaviour and in particular, mental health. A clinical psychologist will provide evidence-based psychological therapies to individuals across the lifespan that are designed not only to relieve symptoms of psychological distress but also to address the factors underlying these difficulties.

Qualifications

Our team members are all highly qualified having completed as a minimum a Masters in Clinical Psychology. This post graduate qualification is the difference between a Clinical Psychologist and a PsychologistDr Isabel Fernandez holds a doctorate in clinical psychology, the highest attainable qualification, requiring over 9 years of formal training.

Dr Isabel Fernandez and her team use a range of therapeutic approaches, depending on the client’s presenting concerns.

For a large number of people, the most evidenced based approach is Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is offered, which involves developing skills in managing one's mood, thoughts and coping strategies. Another helpful approach in many circumstances is the use of mindfulness-based therapies, which involve cultivating present-focused awareness and mental flexibility. Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT) and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) are also often used. The practice also offers EMDR [Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing].
